Terry Gilmore

Terry Gene Gilmore, 55, of Corning, Arkansas, passed away June 26, 2016 in Paragould, Arkansas.

He was born August 5, 1960, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., to Don Gilmore and Norma Rowland.

He is survived by; One son Tim Gilmore and wife Kelly, and One daughter Elizabeth Diane Gilmore Bishop both of Doniphan, Missouri. Also surviving is one brother, Jeff Gilmore and two sisters; Paula Knight and Kathy Wachoff. His mother Norma of Jacksonville, Missouri and father Don Gilmore of Neelyville, Missouri.

Terry had served in the United States Army and had driven a truck. He enjoyed baseball, fishing and car racing.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 30, 2016 starting at 6:00p.m., with funeral Friday, July 1, 2016 at 11:00a.m., in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Missouri. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery.


William “Bill” Church

William “Bill” Edward Church, 54, of Fisk, Mo. passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at his home.

Mr. Church was born on November 14, 1961 in Rome, NY. He was a member of the Elm Grove Baptist Church and was a Free Mason in Columbus, MS.

Survivors include, his sister-in-law, Judy McGee and Fiancé Felipé Lopez of Blue Springs; mother-in-law, Barbara McGee; 3 sons, Phillip Schuler, Jesse Shculer and Nick Church; 1 daughter, Michelle Allen; brothers, Kevin Church and David Church; sisters, Deborah Kidder and husband Richard and Cindy Primm; as well as his grandchildren, Kiera Church and Brianna Church

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Andy McGee.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville from 12:00-1:00p.m. with funeral beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at the Naylor Memorial Cemetery.

Tamera Lynn Hickson, 56, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016 in Poplar Bluff.

Tamera was born March 8, 1960 in Aurora, Ill.  She had worked as a nursing home CNA and enjoyed watching movies and being with family.

On January 25, 1996 she married Steven Hickson in Campbell, Mo.  He preceded her in death October 24, 2015.

She is survived by her children, Robert Allen Warren Jr., Paul Warren and Trena Stratton; her mother, Bonnie (Clark) Ward; a sister, Jennifer Garris and brothers, William McGuirk and Michael McGuirk; as well as her grandchildren, Brett, Brian, Seth and Kyle Warren.

She was also preceded in death by her father, Robert McGuirk; one sister, Danielle McGuirk and brother, Robbie McGuirk.

The family will plan a memorial service at a later date.

Bonnie Marvlee Johnson

Bonnie Marvlee Johnson, 78, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016. Mrs. Johnson was born June 27, 1938 in Poplar Bluff.  She was a member of Abundant Life Christian Center in Poplar Bluff.  A homemaker, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, traveling with her husband and buying and selling antiques. On August 30, 1975 she married Archie Johnson in Poplar Bluff.  He survives.

Other survivors include her children, Gary Gowen, Janet Thomas (David), Donnie Gowen (Brenda), Diana Gowen, Rodney Johnson (Shelly), Lori West (Ray), Kevin Johnson and Carrie Johnson; 4 sisters, Virginia Magill, Louise Pratt, Lola Morgan and Carleen Gowen; 3 brothers, Virgil Randall, Ed Randall and Phillip Randall; as well as 24 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Randall and mother, Leatha (Brown) Cattron; 2 sisters, Margaret Gossett and Edna Moore; and grandchildren, Richard Thomas and Rebecca Diane York.

A memorial visitation will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Abundant Life Christian Center.  The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor David Thomas officiating.  Interment will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, August 8, 2016 at Mo. Veterans Cemetery, Bloomfield, Mo.

Bishop James Lee Price, 82, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.  Bishop Price was born January 10, 1934 in Hazlehurst, MS to the late Eli and Velma (Brown) Price.

Bishop Price was the pastor of The Lively Stone Church of God for over 40 years.  He was a United States Navy Veteran and retired from the Corps of Engineers.  His greatest passion was studying and teaching the word of God.  He also enjoyed watching westerns and spending time with his family.

Bishop Price leaves to carry on his legacy, his wife of 50 years, Pastor Georgia (Kincade) Price, of Poplar Bluff; 2 daughters, Angel Bryant (Patrick), Heather Price both of Poplar Bluff; 9 sons, James L. Price Jr. of St. Louis, Ronald Price of Clear Lake, TX,  Vincent Kincade of Springfield, MO, Anthony Price (Ann) of Memphis, TN, Glenn Price of Atlanta, GA,  Alphonso Price (Earnestine) Darryl Price, Jeffery Price (Nicole) and Richard Price all of Poplar Bluff; 3 sisters, Mary Dunbar, Bessie Newell (Isaac), Josie Bolton all of Hazlehurst, MS;  one brother, Orvell Price (Kasie) also of Hazlehurst, MS; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends to cherish his memories.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Phyllis James and sister, Essie Smith.

Homegoing services will be Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Mt. Calvary Powerhouse Church of God, 1875 Speedway Drive in Poplar Bluff, with the visitation beginning at 12 noon and the funeral to follow at 1 p.m. with Bishop Ron Webb officiating.  Burial will be held in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.

Edna Mae Baker

Edna Mae Baker, 73, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016, at The Cedargate in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Baker was born September 19, 1942, in Tulsa Ok., to the late Jim and Amanda Bennett.

She had worked as a nurses’ aide at Oakdale Caring Center.  She was of the Pentecostal faith and enjoyed going to church.

Survivors include one sister, Ellen Bash of Tulsa Ok., and brother, Larry Bennett of Sandsprings Ok.; and one grandchild.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Baker; 3 sisters and 5 brothers.

Visitation will held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2016, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m. at Marble Hill Cemetery in Poplar Bluff, with Rev. Shelvie Stephens officiating.

Bobby Joe Hill

Bobby Joe Hill, 87, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2016, with his family at his side, at the Mark Twain Caring Center in Poplar Bluff.

A life-long resident of Poplar Bluff, Bobby was born February 16, 1929 to the late John W. Hill and Grace M. (Robertson) Hill. He retired as a sales clerk from 303 Sporting Goods and was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening and traveling.

He married Wanda Marie (Harwell) Hill on May 28, 1949 in Piggott, Ar.  She preceded him in death January 28, 2013.

Survivors include his children, Constance Evans (Tom) of Poplar Bluff, Robert Hill (Teresa) of Wappapello, and Bridgett Ellis (Dale) of Poplar Bluff; one brother, Donnie Hill (Nadine) of Springfield, Mo.; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Four sisters and three brothers also precede him in death.

A memorial visitation was held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2016 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by funeral services at 2 p.m., with Pastor Arvin Haynes officiating.  A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Carney R. Baxter

Carney R. Baxter, 92 of Jonesboro, Ar., passed away on Aug. 15, 2016.

Mr. Baxter was born on May 12, 1924 in Corning, Ar. He was the foreman of the Composing Room for the State Journal-Register in Springfield, IL. He served as the County Clerk in Curran Township in IL. Mr. Baxter was a member of CWA as a Union Printer, VFW of Jonesboro, American Legion as well as Charter member of the WW2 Memorial. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 – 1945 as the Lead Half Track Driver in the 13th Armored Division in Europe.

On Sept. 11, 1943 Carney married Jewel (Judy) Rae Smith in Reno, Nevada. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include, 2 children, Rodney Alan Baxter & wife Cynthia of Houston, TX., Ruth Baxter Meek & husband Richard of Jonesboro, Ar.;1 brother, Richard J. Baxter of Palm Springs, CA.; 3 grandchildren, Tracey, Todd and Zak; as well as 5 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Rachel, Claire, Kate and Tess, with one more due in Sept.

Besides his wife, he is preceded in death by, his parents, John & Kate Baxter; 1 sister, Cona Blaylock; and 3 brothers, Marvin Baxter, Johnnie Baxter and R.V. Baxter.

Visitation will take place on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016 from 1:00 – 2:00 at the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel with Pastor Don Cook officiating. Burial will be at Naylor Memorial Cemetery. Full Military Honors to follow at graveside.


Emma Magline Trout

Emma Magline Trout, 85, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Trout was born October 23, 1930 in Fisk, Mo.  She was a member of Ash Hill General Baptist Church.  A homemaker, she enjoyed quilting, genealogy, scrapbooking and antiquing.

On August 22, 1947, she married Elmer Trout. He preceded her in death March 30, 2010.

She is survived by three sons, Darrell (Kay) Trout, Garry (Rita) Trout, and Terry (Lisa) Trout and daughter-in-law, Betty Trout; two sisters, Kathline Ross and Dorothy Trout and brothers, Carl  Armor and Dean Armor.  Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as great-great-grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Ella May (Liggens) Armor, one son, Jerry Trout, five brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Gary Hancock officiating.  Burial will be in the Brown Chapel Cemetery.

Ernest Bennett Jr.

Rev. Ernest Bennett, Jr. 87, died August 16, 2016. He was born May 19, 1929 at Wayne County, Missouri to the late Rev. Earnest Bennett and Bertha (Clubb) Bennett.

Bro. Jr. was an ordained General Baptist Minister of the Hopewell Association. preaching for 59 years, pastoring 7 different churches, recently pastoring the Word of Life Church in Poplar Bluff which he started 13 years ago. Bro. Jr. and brother Elijah, known as the “Bennett Brothers” have preached hundreds of revival in the past 59 years.

Ernie was a backhoe operator since 1950, running his own Company, Bennett Contractor, in St. Louis before moving to Naylor area in 1980.

Bro. Jr. loved people, loved going to church, preaching and reading his Bible. He loved running his backhoe, gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his “Betty”.

On February 22, 1957 he was united in marriage to Betty (Hicks) Bennett, who survives. To this union were born 5 daughters who survive, Jeneva (Darrel) Tyler, Neena (Rick) Hicks, Crystal (David) McNeal, Angela (Tom) Barnett and Tina (Joey) Lutes. Two other daughters who survive are Jeanette Stanfill and Kathy (Dan) D’Amore. Fifteen grandchildren also survive.

Three brothers, Elijah, Bernett, and Paul Ray and a two sisters, Rosemary and Bernice also survive.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ira , Willis, Bernell; as well as two sisters, Lilly Mae and Rachel.

Visitation for Mr. Bennett will  be Friday August 19, 2016 starting at 6:00 p.m. in the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel Inc. of  Neelyville, Missouri with the Funeral service Saturday August 20, 2016 starting at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Neelyville. Interment will be in the Gum Cemetery with Rev. Hubert Payne officiating assisted by Rev. Raymond Nelson.

Linda Jo Jefferson

Linda Jo “Johnson” Jefferson, 60 of Doniphan, died Wednesday, August 17, 2016 a Mountain View Healthcare in Mtn. view, Missouri. Mrs. Jefferson was born on November 11, 1955 in Fairdealing, Missouri. On May 5, 1972 she married Maj. Tommy Jefferson in Naylor, Missouri. he survives. Mrs. Jefferson was a homemaker and member of Apostolic Faith Tabernacle in Mtn. View where she served as church secretary and taught the teen class with her husband. She enjoyed fishing, her church and church family.

Mrs. Jefferson is survived by her husband; Maj. Tommy L. Jefferson, a son; Maj. Tommy L. Jefferson II, USAF of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a daughter Tanya Jo Spencer and husband, Gary of Mtn. View, Mo., two sisters; Kay and Cliff Diller of Parsons, Tenn. and Ruth and James Dixon of Lincoln, Ark., four brothers, Fred and Linda Kay Johnson of Doniphan, Mo., Lester and Michelle Johnson of Fairdealing, Mo.; David and Kay Johnson of Doniphan, Mo. and Carl and Robin Johnson of Fairdealing, Mo. as well as two grandchildren, Mary Grace Spencer and Emma Louis Spencer.

She is preceded in death by her parents Odell and Mary Mae (Urich) Johnson.

Visitation for Mrs. Jefferson will be Monday August 22, 2106 starting at 12:00 p.m. with the funeral following at 1:00 p.m. in the West Point United Pentecost Church near Doniphan, Missouri on E Hyw.  Burial will be in the Bloomfield Veterans Cemetery. Pastor Jimmy Johnson assisted by Pastor Gary Spencer officiating.

Danis Digges, 52, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Digges was born August 30, 1963 in Fort Hood, Texas.  He was member of Liberty Full Gospel Church.  He worked as a landscaper and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his daughter, Amber Digges and mother, Rev. Nina Sue Hampton, as well several aunts, uncles and cousins.

His father, Melvin E. Digges, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2016 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  A graveside funeral service and interment will follow at 1 p.m. in the Black Creek Cemetery.

Gladys M. Rankin

Gladys M. Rankin, 83, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Ithaca, Michigan March 26, 1933.  On July 5, 1957, she married Willis A. Rankin in Lansing, Michigan.  He preceded her in death October 26, 1993. To this union a daughter, Madeline F. Sauls was born.

Mrs. Rankin was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Poplar Bluff,  a lifetime member of the DAV, member of the VFW and the CCC Chapter 62.  She worked for the State of Michigan in the state title and registry office and also worked 6 years in Alaska in communications.  She had a great affection for animals and loved her grandson dearly.

Mrs. Rankin is survived by her daughter, Madeline; her grandson, Ryan Sauls and a great-grandson, Patrick Thomas Rae Sauls.

Visitation was held at 9 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by the funeral at 9:30 a.m. Burial was held at 1:45 p.m., at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis.

 

Dorothy Eastham

Dorothy Eastham, 81, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away, Saturday, July 2, 2016 at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

She was born May 25, 1935, in Melrose Park, Ill.  She was of the Lutheran faith.

Mrs. Eastham was active in politics, having served ten years as secretary of the Butler County Republican Center Committee from 1970-1980.  She was a former newspaper reporter and photographer for the Bluff Community News and Ozark Beacon newspapers in Poplar Bluff.

Mrs. Eastham enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, as well as watching Cardinal baseball.

She is survived by her children, Rebecca (Kevin) Fears, Patrick (Debbie) Reilly, Robert Eastham, Edward Eastham, Sonny Dale Eastham and Kenneth (Christy) Eastham; a sister, Eleanor Graham; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Werner Paul Guttke and Dorothy Viola (Doyle) Guttke; two husbands, Arthur Reilly and Kay Lee Eastham; one sister, Thelma Burns and brother, Paul Guttke.

Visitation was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  A graveside funeral followed at 12:30 p.m. in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

 


Cloyce “Dean” Bilbrey

Cloyce “Dean” Bilbrey, 84, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away, Saturday, July 9, 2016, at his home.

He was born May 25, 1932, in Shook, Mo., to the late Earl Bilbrey and Thelma (Childress) Bilbrey.  He worked in timber logging and raised cattle.  He enjoyed riding horses and running  his dogs, and dearly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On March 26, 1955, he married Mary (Alford) Bilbrey in Hernando, Ms.  She survives of the home.  Together they shared 61 yeas of marriage.

He is also survived by three daughters, Teresa Phelps, Dennise (Allen) Barker, Bobbie (Doug) Hon and a son, Tim Bilbrey; his grandchildren, Charlie (Taylor) Barker, Justin Barker and Dylan Barker, Bucky (Amanda) Hon, Shannon (Matthew) Sparks, Charles Hon, Michael Hon and Mary (Vernon) Davidson; as well as his great-grandchildren, CJ Hon, Tanis Sparks, Rylee Sparks, Porter Hon and Quentin Hon.

His son-in-law, Basil Phelps, also preceded him in death.

Visitation for Mr. Bilbrey was held a 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  A graveside service and interment followed at 12 noon in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Murray officiating.

 

Howard “Eugene” Greer Sr.

Howard “Eugene” Greer Sr., 70, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016, at his home.

Mr. Greer was born July 31, 1945, in Poplar Bluff.  He was of the Baptist faith.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1971, during the Vietnam War.  He retired from the Poplar Bluff R-1 School system.

He is survived by four children, Howard Greer (Stephanie), Bobbie Hayes, Sherry Million (Steve), and John Greer (Jenny); four sisters, Nettie Coleman, Joyce Mercurio, Grace McKnight and Sandra Ketchens; one brother, Walter Greer; nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick Homer Greer and Norma Emeline (Patterson) Greer; 4 brothers, Howell, Delbert, Fred and Bill Greer.

Visitation was held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  A graveside service, with full military rites, followed at 1 p.m. in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Bloomfield, Mo.  The Rev. Henry Pasquet officiated the services.

Carolyn Jean Chappell

Carolyn Jean Chappell, 62, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday, July 15, 2016, at her home.

She was born July 16, 1953, in St. Louis, Mo.  She was of the Pentecostal belief and enjoyed baking, spending time with her family and grandchildren, and her dog, Fiesty.  She had worked in sales and maketing.

A lung cancer survivor, Carolyn’s greatest joy was giving and doing for others.  She was the most generous, selfless and outgoing person, with a beautiful soul.

On April 16, 2003, she married Rob Chappell, in Fernandina Beach, Florida.  He survives.

Other survivors include her parents, Gene and Pat Stamps; her daughter, Amy (Jerry) Edmundson and son, Tony (Misty) Wallace Jr.; two sister, Lisa Trainor and Sandy Griffin (Jimmy), all of Poplar Bluff; two brothers, Danny Stamps of Alton, Ill. and Randy Stamps of Poplar Bluff; as well as 10 grandchildren, Shelby (Jimmy) Phelps, Chelsy Whelchel, Wesley Whelchel and Caleb Whelchel, Tucker Edmundson, McKena Edmundson, and Sheldon (Sarah) Edmundson, Charlie Wallace, Cooper Wallace and Collin Wallace, Cooper Wallace, and Collin Wallace, and 3 great-grandchildren, Lexi Sieben, Lillian Phelps and Kylee Edmundson.

One sister, Karen Stamps and nephew, Sean Bright precede her in death.

Visitation was held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2016, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  The funeral service followed at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel, with the Rev. Bud Goins officiating.  Memorials may be donated to Poplar Bluff UCAN Chapter.

Henry L. Young, 65, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016.

Mr. Young was born July 4, 1951.  He is survived by one son, Silas Young; a sister, Violet Bud; two brothers, Clifford C. Young and William Floyd Young.

His father, Henry Young, mother, Nessie Gladys (Craft) Young and sister, Nessie Carlene Young precede him in death.

No services are planned.

Wilma Dianne Francisco

Wilma Dianne Francisco, 64, of Wappapello, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016 at Cedar Gate.

Wilma was born on Oct. 15, 1951 in Coon Island, Mo. She worked as a cook and enjoyed bingo, spending time with family and going to church. She was of the Baptist faith and attended New Home Missionary Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff.

On July 8, 1973, she married Alvin Dale Francisco. He preceded her in death on July 29, 2001.

She is survived by one brother, Kenneth Brooks of Greeneville, Mo; one sister, Donna Caldwell of Wappapello, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by, her parents, Claude and Rody Mae Brooks; two brothers, Danny and Gary Brooks; and one niece, Jennifer Schree Brooks.

Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016 at the Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville, Mo., with Visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. The Funeral will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Calvin Buhler officitianing. Burial will take place at the Black Creek Cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
